Our group of 6 had this policy for one of us, purchased through insuremytrip.com, and a different policy as a package with the airline tickets. We had a cancelled flight that caused a rebooked flight such that we missed one overnight stay in a city on our itinerary, and since that hotel was prepaid and nonrefundable, we filed a claim. (The airline did put us up overnight in a different city, arriving very late and leaving very early, missing all meals.) Only this policy (John Hancock subcontracted to American Modern) paid the claim. The other policy wanted a statement from the airline that the flight was cancelled (not enough to provide the original boarding passes and the rebooked ones...and airlines don't hand out written statements that they cancelled a flight). The John Hancock policy people say they're sending a check since obviously we paid for something we did not get, through no fault of our own. So yes we recommend John Hancock (American Modern) trip insurance. Don't buy your trip insurance as a package with an airline ticket, you don't get the coverage you get when you buy it separately!

The agency that handled this claim, Seven Corners, was extremely slow in processing. After I filed the claim online, there was no communication from them until I initiated it. Would not purchase a John Hancock travel policy again, there are too many other better choices.

Terrorism and a military coup required us to re-route our trip around Turkey just a few days before leaving. Turkish Airlines refused to cooperate, so we consulted with the insurance company in advance took a chance by buying new tickets. We were very glad to receive payment of our claim just a few weeks later. The customer service was excellent, and the policy did exactly what it was supposed to do.

I was contacted and told my paper work had arrived for my claim, however I was not contacted and told my original claim was denied. I called and left message for 3 days in a row and did not receive a call back. I found out my claim was denied only after I asked to talk to a supervisor of the answering department. She was very helpful and gave me the information concerning my claim and advise me on how to resubmit the claim. I did resubmit and the communication was better. I was contacted and there was follow up communication.

I was hoping that this trip insurance would just be for peace of mind, but unfortunately I did have to use my trip insurance! This was my first international trip, and while I was in Japan, an earthquake shook Kumamoto and cut all rail transportation in that island. Thankfully my husband and I were very far away from there at the time, but we needed to travel south of Kyushu and were planning to use the rail, which was broken by the quake. John Hancock really pulled through for us as they were able cover a plane flight to our next destination so we didn't have to skip part of our trip. They 24/7 team were very responsive to us and answered all of our questions. After our trip, we submitted the claim and they cut us a check with our transportation costs. I'm definitely both a believer in trip insurance and a believer in John Hancock / Seven Corners.

There were delays and miscommunication around the plan coverage and documentation requirements. Once straightened out, the plan did just as it said it would, it just took some time.

I had to cancel an expensive expedition to Mongolia as my father in UK was diagnosed with terminal cancer....he actually died during the time I would have been away. My claim was paid promptly and in full without any hassle at all.

I had a urgent medical surgery April 8, 2016 followed by complications requiring a second surgery April 18, 2016 preventing me from traveling on May 23, 2016 to Ireland. My claim was ultimately denied because we had decided to rebook this trip after my second surgery to a time 4 months later to limit costs to John Hancock Insurance as well as ourselves from the policy value of $10,000 down to $840 for rebooking fees. Because we rebooked after we cancelled, John Hancock denied the request for $840 rebooking costs and said they would have paid $10,000 if we didn't rebook. So much for being a responsible traveler trying to do the right thing. I will advise EVERYONE not to use Seven Corners administration which handled the John Hancock plan. If you choose another plan that uses Seven Corners, WATCH OUT!! Most unfair business practice I have ever experienced in my 66 years.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy, and for allowing InsureMyTrip to advocate on your behalf. We are sorry to learn that the entire amount claimed was not considered reimbursable, but we are pleased to report that the claims administrator did reimburse a portion of the trip cost difference.

I actually bought this plan for two different trips. The first time I bought it we had to cancel our trip at the last minute due to my husband getting unexpectedly sick. I called in, spoke to a live person, got the claim form, and started cancelling all our plans. The claim form had to have a short section completed by the doctor and the rest I filled out. While the form did require a significant amount of paperwork (pulling original reservation receipts, credit card receipts, cancellation emails, etc.) and took me probably a good 3-5 hours to complete (and I am a fairly organized traveler with all of this stuff handy - but it was a two week trip with multiple vendors organized over several months so had lots of documents to locate), I could not have been happier with the end result. 100% reimbursement of my claims, no issues whatsoever. I received a check in the mail a few weeks after submitting my form. They covered my nonrefundable fares, change fees for the airlines, hotel deposits, etc.
I was extremely happy with the coverage and would definitely buy this coverage again having had the worst happen and come through relatively unscathed. The insurance more than paid for itself as I was not out of pocket anything for the missed trip other than the cost of the insurance itself.
