We booked a Viking Ocean cruise over a year in advance. Before sailing we had an itinerary change and during sailing in the Mediterranean, another change. We are so happy we bought this insurance rather than the one the cruise line offers! Not only was it less expensive but it covered more. As a result of our claim documentation substantiating the changes, Nationwide processed checks quickly and within the advised time frame. We highly recommend purchasing the Nationwide Choice Cruise Plan!

Due to weather issues, we missed a flight and subsequently missed our cruise departure. We had to buy new airline tickets to a different destination in order to catch up with the cruise at the first port (which turned out to be the second port of call because the ship skipped the first port of call due to bad weather), stay overnight in a hotel and then use public transit to get to our destination. Upon our return home, we submitted a claim for all of the additional receipted travel expenses. Nationwide sent us a reimbursement, but not for the full amount. When I called to ask about the amount of reimbursement that we received, the agent agreed that we should have been reimbursed at a higher amount, authorized payment, and we received another check a week later. We were reimbursed for the full amount that we had receipts for. Because we were travelling internationally and had to spend a significant sum to reach our destination, we were very glad to have purchased insurance, and we would purchase it again for an international trip such as this.

LOng and painful claims process. When you call to check on the status, someone looks at a computer screen and reads what is there. You are never able to speak or e-mail directly to a claims adjuster. Often, I would be the one suggesting the next follow-up step,

I had to submit my claim a few times for the processor to understand that we really were delayed almost 12 hours en-route and that our luggage arrived about 17 hours after we did. It was settled, but the proof required was sent in twice to prove that we indeed were delayed 12 hours and not 6 minutes as the processor claimed.

While in Spain one of my wife's toes got infected. We arranged for a doctor to come to our hotel. After we returned to the U.S. and I filed a claim, Nationwide reimbursed us very promptly for the cost of the doctor's visit and the prescription. On the basis of this, I would definitely purchase another policy from the company.

I have always purchased trip cancellation insurance, this is the first time I've ever needed it. My nephew died very suddenly, and of course I needed to stay to be with my sister and her family to help with funeral arrangements. I was able to get the costs back from the cruise line, but it did not cover the additional fare I had to pay to go at a later date, in a higher season, but that was my choice to go later in summer. The airline allowed a full change without penalty, which I was unaware they do, with a copy of the obituary. But I will continue to cover the airfare in case I have to pay airfare home if something happens mid-trip and have to purchase a fare home. Everyone at Nationwide was wonderful to work with, very empathetic and really cared about my circumstances.

Had our European trip cancelled at the last minute due to an air traffic controller strike in Lisbon, Portugal. Although our trans-atlantic carrier immediately provided a full refund, we needed to also cancel our European flight segments - as we were also flying from Portugal to Spain and within Spain - as well as our first night's deposit for our hotel. We contacted a Tru-Travel claims representative who proved to be very professional and courteous; she immediately began processing our claim once we provided payment verification for our flights and hotel.
Within several weeks we received a check in the mail for all our non-refundable payments.
Very pleased with Tru-Travel and their customer service. I would highly recommend them.
