Due to a drastic change in my wife's health we had to cancel the cruise about 20 days prior to the departure. Nationwide Mutual covered all of our expenses with a reasonable amount of documentation.

We missed a port because of damage from hurricane Matthew and I was compensated for the inconvenience. I thought this was nice as most insurance offered with the cruise ship don't offer this coverage. I will buy again for my next cruise.

Nobody ever things anything will go wrong with their plans. But when it does it's nice knowing that there is a company that is there to help them through it. That's exactly what happened to us. We had to cancel our cruise do to a medical condition and Nationwide Mutual and Insure my trip came through for us in a very fast response and satisfaction time frame. It was a great pleasure knowing now that it pays to insure your trip. Thanks for making this so painless.

My husband lost his prescription glasses, of course these were not covered! Insurance agent said prescription glasses, sunglasses and contacts are not covered. Otherwise we did not use.

Remember that the medical coverage for this plan is secondary only. We filed a medical claim for our mother, and the adjuster asked whether or not she had primary medical insurance coverage. Luckily, she did not have primary medical coverage.

Thank you for providing feedback to assist your fellow travelers.
Secondary Coverage means that this coverage will pay only after any other Primary collectible insurance has paid the claim and the Primary policy limits have been exhausted. Then the Secondary plan would have paid in excess of the Primary. However, if there is no Primary collectible insurance and the claim is for a covered medical condition, then the Secondary would reimburse on a primary basis.
Bought this policy for a family cruise. 4 days before the cruise a family member who was also traveling with us became unexpectedly ill requiring hospitalization and subsequent last minute cancellation of our trip. Once we filed the paperwork, it took about 3 weeks to receive our reimbursements from Nationwide. No problems. Paperwork was reasonable. Received coverage as promised.

Warning to ALL who buy this plan - READ the details and fine print of the policy very carefully!! This comes from someone who filed a claim and was denied. I bought this plan for a cruise to the Caribbean. I started experiencing neck/shoulder pain the week of my trip. This was new onset by the way! No prior history of neck problems. I sought medical treatment and was diagnosed with a bulging disc in my neck. The doctor recommended that I not travel until I saw a specialist. I saw a specialist and was cleared for travel but had missed 3 out of the 7 nights of my cruise. All I wanted to be reimbursed for was those nights that I missed and the prepaid, non-refundable excursions! I was not trying to scam the system. I had a legitimate medical reason that prevented me from travel. Nationwide Insurance denied my claim stating, "Because your symptoms occurred during the 60-day period immediately prior to the Effective date of your policy, your condition is deemed a Pre-Existing Condition and therefore excluded from coverage." What is the point of purchasing trip insurance if you are not going to cover when a person has to seek medical care and can't go on their trip? They went on to state: "In addition, since the treatment occurred prior to the effective date, the reason for interrupting your trip is not considered Unforeseen and therefore not covered under the Trip Interruption benefit." "Unforeseen means not anticipated or expected." How much more "Unforeseen" can you get than a bulging disc in your neck that occurs within days before your cruise is scheduled? I mention again - NO PRIOR HISTORY of this medical issue. Even the cruise line wouldn't issue a refund because it was within days of the cruise. I would NEVER purchase trip insurance again because basically all it covers is if you have to seek medical attention while on your cruise. And even then, read your policy very carefully!

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you missed a portion of your trip. We are also sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the policy. Based on the details provided in your review, it does appear that your claim was correctly denied. Travel insurance is designed to protect against unforeseen events only, and pre-existing medical conditions are not covered unless you qualify for the pre-existing conditions waiver. We would be happy to explain in further detail with you over the phone at 800-487-4722. In the future, we encourage you to call us to discuss if travel insurance will cover your primary concerns.
We were, unfortunately, unable to go on our cruise due to a family emergency. We filed the claim with Nationwide and received a check in less than two weeks! Prompt, courteous service!!

Had to cancel cruise because of a back injury. Called and they emailed the forms and instructions. Emailed the completed forms and supporting documents back and received payment within 10 days. Very good service.
