Took forever to get the claim processed, but it did turn out favorably, so I'm happy now. Not so much a few months ago, when there was zero progress on the claim for a good 6 months.

We could not figure out how to make the collect call that was to be used to notify this insurer of our issue. No one in the country we were in, (Iceland) knew how to make a collect call. We tried to email the insurer and they gave us another number. It was so difficult we gave up. While our issue could be dealt with when we got home, if we had had a true emergency we would have been left hanging with no help. An insurance policy where you can't contact the insurance company is no good to anyone. At the least, the insurer should provide instructions for making a collect call in the country you are going to.

I always get travel insurance for foreign trips. I'm thinking more in terms of any medical problems while there, or delays. This is the first time I had to file a claim. My husband had gotten an infection on his replacement knee and needed surgery a month before we were to go to Iceland. We had to cancel the trip. I submitted all the paperwork and they responded very quickly. Had to wait another week for the airline response, but I am getting my costs back, so it was well worth the purchase.

A major work issue caused me to have to cancel my trip just two weeks before I was to leave. I had added "cancel for work reasons" when I booked my trip and bought the travel insurance. I filled in the forms provided, provided the documentation requested, and was issued a check for the full value of the trip within just a couple of weeks. I was very pleasantly surprised that there was NO hassle. I plan to use this company again.
