Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Have bought this type of policy several times for peace of mind, but never needed it until this year. My wife got sick during our cruise and we missed our transfer home to airport due to a trip to emergency room. Thankfully, she was fine and luckily I bought the insurance as they covered all medical costs not covered by my insurance plus reimbursed airport transfer fees. Make sure you submit all required documentation including personal health insurance info. Customer service rep was so kind, helpful and patient with me throughout. Re-enforces why buying travel insurance is worth the peace of mind. I'll never travel without insurance again. Highly recommend this very reasonably priced plan.

This was the first time we had ever purchased travel insurance. If we ever do again, we will definitely not be using Nationwide. Even after my insurance paid as primary, Nationwide rejected my claim as they were our secondary insurance for this trip. Interesting that my medical insurance had no issues processing their portion of the claim, but we paid extra for this travel insurance and then they won't even process the claim.

    Thank you for your comments. After receiving your review, we reached out to Nationwide for a response. Here is their reply:

    “According to the documentation provided, you are requesting reimbursement for an acupuncture treatment while you were on your cruise. The Emergency Sickness Medical Expense coverage provides reimbursement for Covered Medical Expenses which are necessary services and are ordered or prescribed by the attending Physician. Unfortunately, you were not treated by a physician while on the cruise that ordered or prescribed you to receive an acupuncture treatment.”

    Although it is unfortunate to hear that you are not satisfied with the denial of your claim, the decision was made in accordance to the terms of your policy.

    The acupuncturist on board treated me for vertigo after spending 2 days in my room. From the web..."Medical acupuncturists are physicians (e.g., medical doctors, osteopaths [osteopathic physicians], dentists) who have completed additional training in acupuncture."
    I received this treatment so that I could function which I believe would be a necessary service. Thank you~

I had a medical emergency while on an Alaskan Cruise. Getting a response from the company (how to file a claim, required documentation, etc.) was kind of slow, 2-3 weeks to answer an e-mail, but the claim was paid with no issues. Nationwide had the best price for my needed coverage. Overall a great value.

Unfortunately my trip was interrupted with the flu. We were restricted to our stateroom for two days.
This insurance paid for all medical costs on the ship as well as two days of the ship's fare while we were restricted.
Very pleased with the plan. It took a bit over 30 days to receive payment, but that's to be expected with any insurance plan.

    Thank you for confirming that Nationwide processed your claim fairly and easily. Usually Nationwide takes less than 30 days to process a claim except during hurricane season. The Atlantic hurricane system ranges from Jun 1, 2018 – Nov 30, 2018 for storms originating in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, the Pacific Ocean has also had a very busy year with the first tropical depression recorded on May 15th. When you add all the claims activity from the California fires, you will see a more lengthy claim process at this time of year.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Luxury Cruise
I purchased a Luxury Cruise travel insurance plan with Nationwide through Insuremytrip for a cruise to Alaska in June 2018. Our family vacation included a land tour of Seattle after the cruise. However, as we prepared to disembark the ship I received a call from our veterinarian back home that our dog had to be hospitalized in critical condition. We changed our return flight to fly home immediately, which more than doubled the air fare for our family of four. Sadly, our dog died the next day. I filed a claim for the increased air fare under the trip-interruption benefit of the policy. My original claim was misplaced so I had to re-send it. The full amount of the claim was paid within two weeks thereafter, less than a month after I submitted the original. Everything was done by email and was very simple and quick. After reading so many reviews about poor claims processing by some travel insurers I was prepared for the worst but Nationwide came through, at a time we were still mourning the loss of our beloved pet. I'm planning another trip for the end of 2018 and will insure with Nationwide again. I recommend them without hesitation.

    However, we also wish to point out to your fellow travelers, that payment was provided under "Trip Interruption For Any Reason":

    "If You interrupt Your Trip, forty-eight (48) hours or more after Your actual departure date, for any reason not otherwise covered by this Certificate, the Company will reimburse You up to the Maximum Benefit shown on the Confirmation of Coverage for the a) unused portion of the prepaid, forfeited, non-refundable Payments or Deposits You paid for Your Trip;
    b) the airfare paid less the value of applied credit from an unused travel ticket, to return home, join or rejoin the original Land/Sea Arrangements limited to the cost of one- way economy airfare by scheduled carrier, from the point of destination to the point of origin shown on the original travel tickets; provided:
    i. Your premium payment is received prior to or on the date Your final deposit/payment for Your Trip is received and at least thirty (30) days prior to the Scheduled Departure Date; and
    ii. You insure all prepaid Trip costs that are subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions and also insure prior to or on the date Your final payment for those arrangements the cost of any subsequent arrangements (or any other arrangements not made through Your travel agent) added to Your Trip."

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
A lot of the reviews come from folks who were fortunate enough not to have to use the plan, but I wasn't so lucky. I had to cancel my cruise (family medical). I cancelled early enough so there was no penalty from the cruise company, but I had another small deposit that was non-refundable. So I submitted my claim. I admit I was very thorough and included all supporting documents. After submitting my claim, I never heard anything. I think two months had gone by, so I emailed the claims department, and a lady from claims called me back the next day and told me my claim was approved, however, she wasn't sure why I hadn't been sent a check. She said she would have a check issued, and within a few days, the check showed up. So other than that little glitch, I am very happy with this policy.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip at the last minute because of a death in our family. When I called to find out what was necessary to file a claim, the agent emailed me all of the necessary documents immediately. Once the required information was submitted, I received the payment for our claim within about 10 work days. We're certainly glad we had this coverage.
