One purchases insurance with the hope it will never be used. So it was that I purchased travel insurance numerous times without ever filing a claim. My luck finally ran out, as my wife required surgery just a couple of weeks before a scheduled three week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. The problem was related to a pre-existing condition. Fortunately, the insurance had been purchased with that coverage in place.
The folks at April were great. They emailed the claim forms within minutes of my telephone inquiry. The paperwork was actually less complicated than I had expected. I received a notice of approval about three weeks after the completed forms were received, and a check in full payment of the claim about a week after that.
I'm sorry my wife was taken ill and that we didn't get to experience that journey. Those are losses that really can't be replaced, but at least we didn't lose thousands of dollars on top of everything. I am grateful to April and will very definitely purchase insurance from them again for future travels.
Bottom line: Highly recommended; they came through as promised.

I was extremely pleased with the plan and response. The claims filing was really simple compared to the other travel insurance I have used previously. If traveling again, I will certainly use this company and plan again!

Medical problems arose and our trip had to be canceled prior to it's start. Upon filing for a refund of our prepaid expenses, it took 30 days to receive a refund. It was sometimes difficult to get a response when communicating with April Travel Protection and many pages of documentation, including 2 statements from our physician were required. However, at 30 days we received a full refund of all prepaid expenses for our canceled trip. We are very glad we purchased it, considering the unexpected medical issue. We would do so again, obviously.

Unable to travel because of illness. Had booked a number of flights on different airlines, mostly non-refundable and it took considerable time and effort to gather all documentation to file a claim. Only claimed expenses we believed were covered, lost another $1,000 in unclaimed expenses. Once filed, it took more time than expected to receive a refund, but overall the experience with April was okay.

It took way too long to adjudicate a claim that was really small and the processing of the claim was moved to two different companies. That was very inconvenient.
