Trip insurance is always great to have to sleep better, but you never really know what you've got unless you have a claim! Unfortunately in my case, I did have a claim and they did respond with excellent service. The biggest challenge was reaching the 800 number with very spotty WIFI signal, but once I made contact Generali swung into action. They used photos of my medical reports to make the determination of what was necessary and made all the arrangements for changing my return trip and arranging door-to-door service on ground and in airports. Once I got home, I filed a formal claim with documentation for non-refundable and additional expenses, and these were paid in a very timely fashion with good followup.
I'm very thankful to have had that support - I think it persuaded a number of my companions and friends back home of the value as well.

I have experienced baggage delay before on my international flights and it is nothing but a pain in the neck to get delayed, miss your travel plans because you have to wait for the luggage to arrive the next day and then you have to stick around to receive it for a window of 4 or 5 hours. I chose the insurance specifically for this reason and selected the best coverage for that option because I felt that I would at least be compensated for the baggage fees and missing a day of vacation. Sure enough, I needed to file a claim for that very reason. It was the easiest transaction, wrote an email, received an almost instant response, filled out the form and attached photos of all the documentation and boarding passes, and received my check in the mail a week later. Could not have gone smoother and somewhat made up for the hassle at the airport at midnight... very professional, quick, and uncomplicated company to deal with! Will use again on my next trip for sure!

Thank you for this 5 star review for your Generali Standard plan. Your comments reinforce one fact that cannot be stressed enough which is to save receipts and proof of expenses so that you can be accurately reimbursed whether it be costs due to a delay of baggage for the cost of reasonable additional clothing and personal articles, travel delay expenses for hotel or meal, or medical records for emergency treatment received. This is especially important as it can be incredibly difficult to get this paperwork once you have returned home. For filing a claim, nothing is more important than having accurate documentation for your loss.
Fortunately, I had no major problems on the trip. Inadvertently, I lost a cane with folding seat and a donut cushion the first day away. On return home, eight days later, I wrote Generali that I had registered the cane loss with the airport police. When I left Dublin, I checked with them again, nothing turned in.
I gave Generali the prices from Amazon and they sent me a check. If they handle missed flights and illness that way, they are excellent.

Sadly, I had to cancel my trip due to an illness. When I contacted Generali, the representative explained the process which was just how things proceeded. They sent a check for a full refund in a very timely manner.

We have used Generali (under both the CSA; Generali names) policies for years without ever filing a claim and were satisfied. Now that we have gone through the difficult claims process, which took hours and involved some contradictory information from their online help, we'll switch to a company with a clearer description of the coverage offered. Other providers state very clearly what the medical and dental coverage includes, and we will choose between one of them for our upcoming trip. Since our credit card covers all the trip delay, lost and delayed luggage, etc, medical coverage is the important part of a trip that needs coverage from a travel insurance policy.

Thank you for your review. Although we can understand your wish to just wait until you return home to go for dental treatment, unfortunately no travel insurance provider including Generali would reimburse for dental treatment received once you are home.
We did contact Generali to explain the confusion in your policy wording.
Here is their response:

Details on coverage for airline bankruptcy were not very clear regarding the time required to purchase the policy after initial trip payment. Thus when WOW airlines shut down and my trip had to be cancelled my claim was denied.

My husband was diagnosed with cancer several weeks before our trip and his treatments required us to cancel. Though we had to gather and send several documents, the claim process was fairly straightforward on line. When I had questions, responses were prompt and clear. Our trip costs were refunded fully. This was the first time I'd ever purchased trip insurance and I'm very glad I did.

Unfortunately I had to cancel my trip 4 weeks prior to departure as a result of unanticipated health reasons. After I contacted them, they sent me an email with a link to their claims process that allowed me to upload all required information and forms. I was able to file electronically and received a full refund within 2 1/2 weeks. I was very satisfied with the entire process.
