Took just over 4 weeks (20 business days) to adjudicate. Website says 10-15. Called and emailed who they said was my claims agent 4 times ..Never heard by phone or email any updates.
It was eventually paid and had clear cause with over 3 hr weather delay and letter from Delta saying missed flight due to weather. Straightforward claim that was very delayed

Our planned trip did not happen as American Airlines cancelled the first leg of our flight to Curacao and had no other means to get us there. We had purchased the Gold Trip Insurance Plan from AIG. I was skeptical and worried that AIG would find a way to wiggle out of paying for the non-refundable portion of our trip. AIG, however, came through and covered all non-refundable costs.

It is so frustrating to read trip insurance reviews where no claim has be filed. This review does involve a claim. So, read on..
I purchased a plan covering medical (secondary) and medical evacuation only!
We needed it when I broke my foot traveling in Italy.
One call to AIG and they assisted a great deal. This is especially so on the medical evacuation. They made all the plans consistent with the doctor’s advice - picked us up in Lake Como, transported us to the airport, made all arrangements for the flight (Business class due to my need to elevate my foot) and picked us up at our destination airport to our car. Since I needed a non medical escort, my wife acted that part and the insurance plan covered her travel also.
Medical bills which I paid in cash while in Italy, were also processed quickly and accurately.
My only complaint was that prior to approval on my medical evacuation benefits being approved, they emailed a multi page packet that I had to print in order to fill out and return. Having no printer where we were staying made it really difficult and stressful to find a way around this. But, I managed to figure something out. AIG needs to understand the difficulty this requirement presents and work on an alternative method.

We had to cancel our trip due to an injury suffered in a fall. AIG Travel Guard was prompt in sending cancellation forms and in paying the claim. We were quite satisfied.

It’s been 2 months with back and forths with the claims adjuster. I actually feel sorry for her but they’ve made every effort to discredit the documents submitted. It’s a tactic to make you lose patience and walk away... or the staff is not scaled up enough to conduct proper service. Perhaps this was one random incident but it’s the worst insurance experience I’ve had. They are going to simply provide an email to request a premium refund instead of paying out the claim. Strongly suggest you try someone else. I’m stunned a brand of this insurance company’s caliber has such a shoddy response when a claim is made. I am never buying personal or commercial protection from them again.

We have purchased the Travel Guard gold plan over the years because it provides the coverage we think we need. Fortunately, we have not had to make a claim until this past trip (April 2019). We contacted Travel Guard, they promptly sent the claim form package. We filled out the information requested and mailed it back to them. At this point our frustration began. Upon calling them they reported that the package did not arrive there until 11 days later. Eventually a claim adjuster was assigned. Then silence. And then short replies back that made no sense. At the end I had to get a supervisor involved. It was a simple claim through a single tour provider -- inclusive of air, ground, tours, food, accommodations. Two days after involving the supervisor, we received a call from the
adjuster to say the claim was approved and a check was in the mail. It arrived promptly. Because
of their delays with the claim I plan to look for another company to handle my travel insurance in the
future. Dealing with them again on a possible claim is not something I want to repeat.

We apologize for any difficulties that you experienced through the claims process. AIG Travel Guard would also like you to know that they appreciate the feedback. An AIG claims supervisor will be calling you for further discussion.
This review isn't for this specific purchase but rather in general for AIG Travelguard insurance. We have traveled extensively for about 20 years and have always purchased Travelguard insurance for our overseas and sometimes our domestic trips. We have had to completely cancel 2 trips over the years due to a family death and a serious family illness and had one trip extended due to an airline disruption. All three claims (the most recent was in 2018) were paid quickly and completely with no issues whatsoever from AIG TG. All staff that I spoke with for questions or assistance prior to filing the claims were helpful and knowledgeable. It is hard to know which insurance to pick unless you know someone who has had to file a claim - I definitely recommend this company based on my experiences so far.

my granddaughter got food poisoning at an all inclusive. i was reimbursed for medical expenses, but our trip was interrupted for 3 days while we had to stay in our room due to her illness. She was unable to eat. This policy would not consider this a trip interruption because we left on the day we were scheduled to. But we lost 3 days of an all inclusive vacation.

Thank you for advising us on the status of your claim.
Although we are pleased you received reimbursement of your medical expense, we can certainly understand your frustration to hear that your Trip Interruption claim was denied. However, your Trip interruption claim was fairly denied because it did not meet the terms of your Travel Guard Gold plan which on page 7 of your certificate states:
Trip Interruption Benefits: The Company will reimburse the
Insured up to the Maximum Limit shown in the Schedule or
Declarations Page for Trips that are interrupted due to the Unforeseen events shown above for:
(a) Unused portion of nonrefundable, prepaid insured Trip Cost, and
(b) additional transportation expenses incurred by the Insured, either
(1) to the Return Destination; or
(2) from the place that the Insured left the Trip to the place that the Insured may rejoin the Trip; or
(c) additional transportation expenses incurred by the Insured to reach the original Trip Destination if the Insured is delayed and leaves after the Departure Date..."

AIG was excellent. We purchased this policy for a cruise, mainly to insure against the astronomical cost of a possible helicopter evacuation at sea. My wife had a medical emergency off the Mexican coast and we had to disembark in port for surgery. We are on Medicare, which covers nothing outside the U.S. Our Mutual of Omaha supplemental policy paid for 80 percent of the medical. The AIG policy covered all the rest. Both claims were handled very quickly. This was medical insurance only. The AIG policy did not cover any cost of returning to the U.S. or the cruise. However, this was a very affordable plan and satisfied our needs.
