We had to cancel a 15-day Princess Cruises trip to Hawaii in October, 2016, just two days before sailing, because of a medical issue. The April Travel policy we had purchased reimbursed us for the out-of-pocket cruise fares very promptly (within a couple of weeks) and without any hassle. Fortunately, we had no other non-refundable costs. I will definitely use the April Travel Choice plan again if it is available the next time we plan a trip. One useful fact I learned from this experience was that the government taxes and port charges portion of a cruise fare ARE refundable when you cancel a cruise, so you may not need to insure these amounts.

April Travel Protection Choice Family Plan delivers everything it says. I was blown away at how my claim was paid in full with no extra correspondence. (I've had other experiences where companies keep asking for more and more documentation until you can't come up with something) To be honest, I was skeptical, I figured there was some fine print some where that I had missed that was going to void or greatly reduce my claim. Absolutely not the case. My vacation expenses were fully refunded without stress or delay. What more can you ask for??!! I will definitely use April in the future.

I was unable to make this trip because I had to have surgery. Fortunately I had not put out very much money. In fact the amount of money I put out was just a few dollars more then what my premium for the insurance was.

Good insurance plan and up front service,. When I called to find out how to make a claim I was told I would receive a claim form by email. Nothing arrived. Called again -- nothing arrived. Third time they finally sent the claim form. Filled it out and sent it in. No response. Waited a month, nothing. No confirmation of receipt (I sent it certified so I knew they received it); no acknowledgement they were processing the claim, nothing. Sent an email asking what the status was about 5 weeks after I sent in the claim. A day or two later I received an email saying it was complete and they were sending the check. I did receive full payment (it was a small claim, under $200), but I was not satisfied with the customer service. I felt as if they were ignoring me and hoping I would just go away.

I purchased travel insurance, including a cancel-for-any-reason rider, with April Travel Protection. When circumstances required me to use the insurance, the staff at April Travel handled my phone calls and e-mails promptly, professionally, politely, and kindly. The requirements to file a claim were clearly explained, and forms were emailed to me immediately thereafter. Upon submission, the paperwork was addressed quickly, and a check was received by me in less than 30 days. With other events occurring in life, it was a relief to have our insurance claim handled so expertly by such a reputable and reliable company. Without hesitation, I highly recommend insuring a trip with April Travel Protection. I will absolutely use them again in the future.

Beware of this company !!
They promise to process claims within 30 business days. After the 30 business days were up, no response from them. I had to escalate the issue with Insuremytrip customer care.

    Thank you for submitting your review. April Travel Protection has advised us that you did not submit receipts with your claim. Since the incurred expense was minimal, you indicated that the provider does not typically provide receipts. You were also unable to provide them with a copy of your credit card statement so April Travel Protection denied your claim.

    Of course, we never wish to hear that a claim has been denied. However, verification of payment is a requirement of the claim process for all companies including April Travel Protection.

    Please call InsureMyTrip at 800-487-4722 if you do find your receipt. You can always re-open your claim.

    We apologize for your claim settlement experience.
    After further review, this claim was not submitted in a timely manner by a customer service agent who is no longer employed at APRIL. Our team requested for your claim to be expedited by our adjustors and it was processed in nine business days. During the claims processing time of nine days, our adjustors submitted an Items Needed letter for the receipts of the purchases made while the luggage was delayed. The receipts were not supplied, which resulted in a denied claim.

    Per the policy terms and conditions, “All claims must be verified by the Common Carrier who must certify the delay or misdirection and receipts for the purchase or replacement of necessary personal effects must accompany any claim.

Insurance is only as good as it handles a claim. I killed my camera, April handled the claim fairly in a month. Communications before I submitted the claim were very prompt and helpful.
