I highly warn people to NOT get this insurance.
The claim process is fairly simple. Fill in a form, send it along with scans of the documents.
BUT the catch is.
They only make settlements of claims through CHECKS. Yes, you heard that right, checks in the mail.
What is this, are we in the 80s?? Also.... it doesn't matter if you're abroad.
They'll send you a US check, for a US bank, and expect you to somehow cash it in.
So, if you're not living in the USA, then this insurance company is not for you.
Stay away.

My husband injured his back while we were travelling. This insurance paid all of his medical bills (minus the deductible) for MRIs, x-rays, and physical therapy. Invaluable!!!!

Called 2 times for clarification on claim and spoke to someone with no wait. They were very helpful and i had no problems with claim even though my primary insurance pushed me over the 90 day time limit for submitting they still took it and processed within 2 weeks.

We are not satisfied with Global Underwriters.
We will be filling a claim for out-of-pocket expenses related to treatment for a fractured wrist my wife received while traveling in Chile. She received medical care in Buenos Aries; x-rays, medical assessment and a cast. The doctor informed us that my wife required surgery to repair that brake so we elected to return home early to be treated by our local doctor. We notified Global Underwriters of the situation and were told that our insurance would not cover the cost of an early return home. We were told that they would cover the surgery in Buenos Aries but not the travel expense to return home early to be treated there.
The Global representative actually laughed at us and told us that we bought the wrong coverage.
I should note that the total cost for the medical care in Buenos Aries was $110. With a deductible of $100 Global owes us $10. We are still had the out of pocket expense of $1,300 in changes in travel arrangements, not to include the lost value of our vacation because we ended up missing 1/3rd of the package group tour we were on at the time of the incident. Further, we paid $280 for the insurance package so in total we will have out of pocket expense $1,570 assuming we get paid the $10 Global owes us.
Anyone who is traveling abroad should know that most trauma injuries incurred while traveling are ambulatory and should insure that the coverage includes early return due to injury. Emergency medical evacuation does not cover ambulatory situations.
Also, check with your own health insurer to see if they provide primary coverage for illness or injury when traveling abroad. We discovered that our health care provider would provide primary care coverage while we were overseas to include referral to local medical facilities in the event of illness or injury, coverage of medical transport to local facilities and translator services if necessary.
We are not happy campers! We would have been better off if we had not purchased the insurance in the first place.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn about the injury that was suffered. Unfortunately, the Global Underwriters Diplomat International plan does not cover Trip Interruption due to an injury or illness of an insured person. Most Single-Trip Medical plans cover Trip Interruption due to the death of an immediate family member or a Natural Disaster which destroys your principal place of residence.
Comprehensive travel insurance plans do cover Trip Interruption due to an unforeseen, accidental injury, emergency illness, or death of the insured(s), traveling companion(s), and family member(s).
In the future, please call us at 800-487-4722 so we can assist you in selecting plans that adequately cover your primary concerns.
We had some medical issues in SE Asia - pneumonia in January, dengue fever - you know, that kind of thing. Global accepted the claims online, which was much easier than my regular medical insurance company. Once I received the EOB (explanation of benefits) from my medical insurance, then Global paid the remainder (minus the deductible) quite quickly. Thank you!!!!

Well, we actually used a travel policy for the first time ever for an actual claim. Had to go by ambulance to an ER in Leipzig, Germany. All we had to do was hand over the insurance papers and we received great care, no muss, no fuss.

My wife and I both got travelers diarrhea in Peru and missed 2 days of a 14 day trip. In the past, travel insurance has covered trip interruption, but not this time. In fact nothing was covered by this trip insurance. I will tell everyone who will listen concerning our experience.

This is a travel medical policy the trip interruption (see below) is only for certain covered reasons.
Trip Interruption - Coverage is provided if an Insured is unable to continue his/her trip due to; a) death, occurring prior to the Insured's return to his/her Home Country, of an Insured Person's Immediate Family Member; b) serious damage to the Insured Person's principal residence from fire, flood or similar natural disaster (tornado, earthquake, hurricane, etc.). The Company will reimburse the Insured Person for the cost of travel, less the value of applied credit from an unused return travel ticket to return to their Home Country. This benefit is limited to the cost of a one-way economy airfare or ground transportation and is subject to a maximum of $5,000 per policy period.
