We had a change in itinerary BEFORE we left for our cruise & submitted a claim with Nationwide Luxury Cruise when we returned from our cruise & they were very prompt in sending us 2 checks for $1250 each.

We had a last minute family health issue. Had to cancel cruise. Filed paperwork and had check in hand within 15 business days. Great company!! No issues.

Have cruise 27 times and never had to make a claim. I submitted all the paperwork I had and there were no questions asked - in 15 business days, we had our checks., Excellent.

I had to sadly cancel 4 days prior to our cruise due to the unexpected death of my father. My trip cancellation claim was pd in full. Representatives I spoke with over the phone were very kind. Processing the claim took a little longer time than 15 days, but it was hurricane season and I'm guessing Nationwide had an above average amount of claims to review during that time. Nationwide Cruise Choice is always our first choice in travel insurance.

I purchased the Nationwide Essential plan for a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean at a reasonable price instead of the overpriced "Royal Caribbean CruiseCare". I was very happy that I chose this plan. I had to visit the ship doctor's office on the second day of the trip for an antibiotic. The total cost was ~$250. The claim process when I returned home was easy and they reimbursed me the full amount of the medical costs incurred onboard the cruise.

Of all the times I have purchased travel insurance, this was the first time I had to use it and I was very unhappy with Nationwide when they denied our claim. My daughter and I survived the Las Vegas concert mass shooting, but my daughter was still too traumatized and stressed to travel on a plane and be on a crowded cruise ship over Thanksgiving. She had all the supporting documentation from a health care provider but because she wasn't hospitalized for an emotional/psychiatric issue it was not covered! (watch the fine print on exclusions when you purchase insurance). Plus, they took so long to finally deny it that we lost our window to even try to reuse the airfare. It was VERY frustrating to deal with a large insurance company that couldn't consider the extenuating circumstances of being in a mass shooting as cause of cancellation!

Thank you for taking time to submit your Nationwide review.
Although we are very, very sorry that you and your daughter experienced the horror of the Las Vegas attack, we are relieved to hear that neither of you were physically injured. While it is understandable that your daughter was hesitant to board a plane after such an experience, it would still not be a "covered reason" for Trip Cancellation under your policy. As the company explained, your Nationwide policy excluded "...mental or emotional disorders, unless Hospitalized...", as do most travel insurance plans.
Although this was not a satisfactory claim experience since it resulted in a denial of coverage, these circumstances would have been covered under a policy with a "Cancel for Any Reason" rider. In the future, you may decide to revisit purchasing travel insurance including that optional coverage. "Cancel for Any Reason" is available under the Nationwide Choice and Luxury Cruise plans for an additional premium.

While I appreciate your reply, the "cancel for any reason" rider is often not available unless you purchase the insurance right away with initial payment on the trip or at all. I have purchased many travel policies through your site. Since, we don't have all the total costs until we purchase the airfare, hotel if needed, and are sure who is finally going on the trip, it's difficult to purchase the travel insurance right away. Otherwise I would purchase the rider. PLUS, I was told that is not full value but only a portion of the costs (some is better than none but we did not anticipate that the cancellation would be for anything but illness, or the other listed covered reasons on the higher cost plan).
My wife had a medical emergency a week before we were scheduled to leave. Nationwide refunded our cruise money in full in a timely manner. It was easy to do business with them and I would highly recommend Nationwide as a place to buy your travel insurance.

We bought this policy to not only insure our trip but also for the medical coverage. My wife is on Medicare and it only covers her in U.S. territories and with doctors licensed in the United States. Less than two hours into our cruise and she needed to see the ship doctor. The bill for 15 minutes was $213.44. We filed a claim with Nationwide when we got home. Once Medicare (primary insurance) denied the claim, Nationwide mailed a check for $213.44 to us.
We chose Nationwide essentials insurance because they offer $250,000 air evacuation coverage along with $75,000 medical coverage. Many other companies only offer $10,000 medical coverage and considerably less air evacuation coverage.
I only deal with Insure My Trip when buying trip insurance because if you end up having trouble filing a claim that gets denied, Insure My Trip can get involved as a third party to get it resolved. Once we filed a claim that was denied. After Insure My Trip became involved, the claim was paid in full.

My son was hurt on our cruise. He cut his foot in Belize and got shells inside that was not fully removed. We sought additional medical care when we returned home because it had gotten infected and was told the medical care received "after" the trip wouldn't be covered as they only provide coverage during the trip. Will not use them in the future.

We are very sorry to hear that your son's injury did result in an infection and hope that he is now fully healed.
Although we can understand your expectation, you will find that the medical expense benefit does end once you return home in the majority of plans. At that point, your US medical coverage would take over responsibility for the expenses.
