Getting Type A Influenza in a foreign country after a cruise is not fun! Nationwide's online claim form is wonky, but they did reimburse me after I sent in all of the information required. Their 24-hour emergency line representative was very helpful in explaining exactly what I needed to do in order to file a claim. My health insurance paid for the medical bills and Nationwide reimbursed me for my replacement airline ticket and the extended hotel stay for 3 nights.

I did file a small claim due to a ferry cancellation (weather related) in Greece which required an additional unplanned hotel night as well as missing one day of a prepaid apartment at our next destination. I probably provided more information than necessary when filing the claim but had no issue receiving compensation for my additional expenses. It is important for anyone taking travel insurance to SAVE all receipts in the event they do need to file a claim. The more documentation you have the easier it is to get compensation. Save all receipts including airline tickets, etc. until you are home and are sure you will not need to fill a claim.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
My mother and I booked a trip to Europe but shortly before we left my mother had an accident so we were unable to go. She used a different Travel Insurance company so I submitted identical paperwork- doctors letters, confirmations, cancellations, credit card details, etc - to both companies. My mother’s company sent her a refund check within a month with no further need of proof of documentation. Nationwide sent me more emails asking for identical paperwork, letters of cancellation and other information which I had already sent. Weeks later I received a check but I did not get the full refund I was entitled to as they deducted amounts I had paid. As it had taken so much time I accepted the final amount offered but will definitely be using the other Travel Insurance company in the future.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Universal Cruise
Our long awaited magical ten day cruise on the Carnival Vista from Greece to Barcelona, then thirteen day Royal Caribbean Harmony from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale was thrown into a tailspin two days before our scheduled flight departure. Air France cancelled the last leg of our flight - Paris to Athens. Then, the Air Traffic controllers in Greece scheduled a four day strike, which prevented us from embarking on our ship in Athens. Air France tried to book us to the first port of call, but we would have had to leave "tomorrow", which was impossible because both of our nearby airports, Orlando and Melbourne were closed in the anticipation of Hurricane Matthew. Needless to say, our stress level was high, and thankfully, we didn't have to concern ourselves with losing several thousands of dollars as well. I am a big Clark Howard fan. He advises it's never wise to buy the trip insurance cruise lines offer, but rather a third party company. Nationwide was excellent and covered us for all of our losses. We NEVER plan a trip without buying insurance from insuremytrip.com. Five years ago, we cancelled a European vacation due to a death, and once again, we were refunded all of our losses. The Nationwide refund was quick and the information was easy to submit.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Choice Cruise
I actually appreciate the opportunity to make this review because we are still pleasantly surprised at the wonderful service and prompt coverage of our claim. We booked this insurance 18 months ahead of our travel, and as one part of our travel changed, it was the Nationwide Company representative herself that made us aware that there was coverage for that change. They then provided clear and explicit instructions for forms and how to submit them and then we received our check in less than 10 days.
We can only think that if we had had a true emergency or other difficulty, Nationwide's assistance and claim response would have been equally quick. Based on our interactions with the representatives and fast claim coverage, we highly recommend this company and will definitely look for travel insurance with them again!

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Luxury Cruise
Our cruise canceled an Israeli port a week prior to departure. I filed a claim with Nationwide Mutual prior to leaving, and the check was awaiting me when I returned home. Customer service couldn't have been nicer to assist me in the claim.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I got sick while in Greece, and had to go to the hospital. When I called Nationwide after returning home, they were very helpful, and emailed me the claim paperwork within minutes of my phone call. I was reimbursed the full amount after just a few weeks. This is a great plan!
