We used this policy to reimburse us for my husband's visit to the cruise ship's doctor. While we were still on the ship, I used the email address specifically provided to us by April Travel Protection to communicate with them while at sea. Basically I just wanted to find out what we needed to provide in order to file a claim so that I made sure we got all of the documents before leaving the ship. However, I received no response back from April, so I needed to call them from the ship. When I spoke to a rep I told her I had emailed the address provided and got no response back, she kept repeating that they respond to emails within a certain time (it was way past the time frame she said). Not a great start in terms of customer service.

However, she did email me a claim form with instructions and when we got back home I followed the claim instructions carefully and had no problems getting reimbursed for the full amount of the ship's medical center charges. (Although on their summary of benefits that came along with the check they got the patient name wrong and listed me as the patient instead of my husband -- it didn't affect the payment but I noticed they got that wrong.)

So, I would probably use April again as they processed the claim quickly and completely and had good coverage, but I do wish they were better about responding to their email and paying attention to who the patient was.

My wife purchased this plan when arranging for our trip to New Zealand. On the trip, the unthinkable happened: she became ill and died of pneumonia despite prompt, aggressive, excellent medical care. Procedures included air transfers by helicopter and airplane, and brief stays in 2 ICUs. April didn't always answer their phone promptly, and weren't much help while I was in New Zealand, but none was needed as we were well taken care of by the medical system and by Overseas Adventure Tours. On return, I initially thought they would pay the bills as they came in, but the policy clearly states that they reimburse for what I pay. After we straightened that out, I paid the bills, with a couple calls to NZ needed to prod the billing offices, and I submitted the receipts and credit card statements as requested. Review took longer than I thought it should, and communications from them were sometimes delayed and cryptic. But what counts is that in the end, they paid every penny of every bill without a hassle beyond getting the paperwork done. I give them full credit for being careful, thorough, and doing what they said they would do.

GoReady Insurance Choice Family Plan
I was very happy with purchasing a "Cancel For Any Reason" April Travel Protection plan.
I got injured before our ski trip and was limping around. I knew I couldn't enjoy skiing as initially planned because I could hardly walk. I contacted April insurance, who sent me a claim form to fill out. When I had questions about how to answer certain questions, April was happy to assist me in filling out the form. The insurance process went smoothly and I received the refund (75% of the trip cost, as was stated in my contract.) They do take about thirty days to process this, but I felt it was reasonable. (I did send them all my trip reservation information (emails) and the doctor's physical therapy paper for my injury, but since it was a cancel for any reason it might have worked without the doctor's info.)

I really love the April Travel Protection plan. It is hands down, the best-priced plan for the level of coverage we want that I've found anywhere, period (and I've price-compared plans across other brokers, and directly from the various travel ins companies as well). This is not my first purchase of the April Travel Protection plan, but this is my first claim submitted (unfortunately) as a result of an injury suffered on our family cruise this past 2/2017. My 4 year old daughter fell in the children's splash area and split her chin, necessitating 3 stitches by the ship's doctor. We paid the medical fee onboard, and then came home and submitted a claim. The C/S rep was friendly over the phone, then immediately emailed me the necessary claim forms to initiate a claim. I filled everything out and submitted with the proper proof/documentation, and was told it could take up to 4 weeks. Where they fell a bit short was in communication with me after paperwork submission. Apparently, I had omitted my flight itinerary to prove actual travel, but did not hear from them via email or even a quick phone call to let me know. I had no contact from them whatsoever (be it a status update, or that they still needed documentation from me), and I finally called them back as the week 4 mark approached to check. THEN I was told the flight itinerary was still needed. But once I submitted that, I received my check within the week. April and the C/S rep could have been a bit more communicative between the underwriter and me, the client. But, payment was prompt and the claims process hassle-free (i.e., no crazy requests for excessive and unreasonable documentation, no impression given that the company didn't want to pay or was looking to over analyze claim requests). I submitted the claim, and got a check. I also submitted a claim for a lost personal item (the cruise lost my jacket), and also got a check for that very promptly (within one week of filing that separate claim). All in all, I found April easy to work with, and well-priced. They are also insuring our family's upcoming international trip to Asia, and I recently bought another April Travel Protection plan for the family for our cruise next year as well. I am definitely a repeat customer.

Had my phone stolen in Ecuador. Spent a lot of time filing a claim and submitting police report and necessary paperwork only to be told that phones are not covered in the fine print. Spoke to more than one customer service rep and none of them mentioned it and let me proceed with wasting my time. In the end I was upset because the phone was not covered but also because I felt I had been misled into wasting time and effort. Turns out there is a lot of stuff that isn't covered so BEWARE:

The following exclusions apply to Baggage Delay / Baggage Delivery, Baggage / Personal Effects, Baggage / Personal Effects – Business Equipment, and Baggage / Personal Effects – Sports Equipment. We will not provide benefits for any loss or damage to:
1. animals;
2. automobiles and automobile equipment, boats or other vehicles or conveyances; trailers, motors, motorcycles, or aircraft;
3. bicycles (except when checked as Baggage with a Common Carrier); 4. eye glasses, sunglasses or contact lenses;
5. artificial teeth and dental bridges; hearing aids; prosthetic limbs;
6. keys, money, stamps, securities and documents; tickets;
7. art objects and musical instruments;
8. consumables including medicines, perfumes, cosmetics, and perishables;
9. professional or occupational equipment or property, whether or not electronic Business Equipment; 10. telephones,computerhardwareorsoftware;or
11. propertyillegallyacquired,kept,storedortransported.

Although it took some time to process my claim, I was notified every step of the way -- that my claim was received, that it was being processed, how much i would be reiumbursed (exactly what I claimed), and when the check would be sent to me. I would most certainly recommend April Travel Protection to any and all travelers.

First the good: The coverage was reasonably priced; the Company paid the Doctor and the Hospital for the emergency surgery and hospital recovery treatment; the Company refunded the million peso up front deposit that I had to make when were were evacuated to the hospital; and the Company got us air tickets to get home because the tour had moved on when the Dr released my wife to travel.
To Be Improved would include: keeping us informed of progress on our return air tickets - we spent several days frantically calling and emailing the Company, and cooling our heels in a hotel after release from the hospital, even though the release date had been sent to them two days in advance of discharge; employing a claims processor who could read and understand the claim submittal back-up information, and who would ask me questions if she didn't understand, rather than first paying for one person instead of two and paying at the wrong country's exchange rate, then later having to correct these errors and make a second payment.
