I purchased insurance that provided 50% refund if tickets/travel had to be cancelled for any reason. Unfortunately, my trip did have to be cancelled at the last minute. The insurance claim was processed relatively quickly (approximately 2 weeks) and the 50% refund was provided via a check mailed directly to me. Much better than the total loss I would have experienced without the insurance.

It became apparent in August hat my wife needed surgery and we would not be able to go on our trip. I notified AIG and they told me what I needed to file a claim. We got the information they required and sent the papers to AIG. They processed the paperwork and sent us a check for what we had paid.

Filed a claim. It took about a month to get my check. Claim was for trip interruption and you should beware that the maximum for return airfare is $750 per person. That goes really quick when you are trying to book a last minute international flight home.

Since my kids were born and we started to travel with them, I always buy insurance now, just in case. And we travel a lot, never got to file a claim, until our last trip, where my son got sick and required some treatment while we were abroad. I collected all papers and filed a claim online, the process was easy. The only drawback was complete lack of response. The status online was showing "the claim is under review", and the status has not changed for 2-3 weeks, then I started emailing them online asking to give any update or at least give some estimation on how long it might take. No answer. Then I called them, and very polite agent told me they will expedite my request. The very next day I got the call that my claim was approved and they have mailed the check. I got the check within 5 days. So, I am satisfied that my claim got approved and paid off. The only drawback was the lack of communication and updates on the progress.

It took 7 weeks, 3 messages and 1 phone call to get my simple claim processed and paid. All 3 of the messages I sent online were ignored and AIG gave me no explanation of when my claim would be processed. It took an angry phone call for any movement to happen.

I was in Europe and ended up in a German hospital. My tour was cut short and we flew back to London to catch a flight to the US. AIG was in touch with my daughter the whole time. They paid for our expenses without question with the receipts

Overall, the plan was of good value and covered the costs of the trip we needed reimbursed. However, after filing the claim, we were asked for every piece of documentation regarding cost of the trip which was over 100 pages of receipts. One suggested improvement is to streamline this process better.

Purchased the plan and sure enough, I had to take my son to the doctor three days after being overseas. I contacted the phone number and had a great service, providing help with the symptoms and making sure that my son was ok...they kept calling for two days to make sure everything was fine.....the problem is when trying to get the claim processed: It's been 6 weeks since I submitted everything online and there hasn't been any contact from the company. I've sent messages to my AIG Adjuster (J. Crivello) using the online system and haven't get any answer. Based solely on this lack of service I don't recommend that you buy this insurance. If they take this long to process a claim for $100 dollars, you really don't want to try them with something more serious and expensive. What a disappointment, don't buy this insurance

    We apologize for the slowness of the communication from the AIG Travel Guard Claims Department. This is definitely not their usual standard of service. Despite this frustration, we were very glad to hear that you received full reimbursement for your medical claim.
