I have not received word on my claim yet since I just filed it. But, customer service is outstanding. Everyone that I talked with since I forgot to add one more piece of proof of sailing were extremely helpful. i am looking forward to using their company service again when sailing. I can't say enough about how helpful these reps have been.

Great company to buy insurance from. Unfortunately, we had to file a claim, but everyone we spoke to was helpful and professional... and our claim was processed promptly. We will definitely continue buying our cruise insurance thru Nationwide!!!

We had to cancel our trip because one of our travelers became pregnant, and albeit that was a non cancel-able reason per the contract, our trip location is one of the highest Zika virus potentials in the world and per her doctors orders not to chance the trip.
The coverage was denied.
We canceled our trip because of the Zika virus not because she was pregnant.
I think this is wrong!

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. The only benefit that can be used to cancel a trip due to the fear of contracting Zika virus is Cancel for Any Reason.

    Cancel for Any Reason coverage typically requires the following requirements (varies by plan):

    1) Purchase within 10-30 days of your initial trip deposit
    2) Insure 100% of your pre-paid, non-refundable trip cost
    3) Cancel the trip 2 or more days prior to departure

    While Cancel for Any Reason does give you the flexibility to cancel your trip due to an increased fear of Zika, it does not protect 100% of your trip cost. Depending upon the plan, Cancel for Any Reason benefit will reimburse 50%, 70%, or 75% of your insured trip cost.

Our 4-night cruise to Bahamas was plagued by bad weather and rough seas. We were not able to stop at the island nor able to get off the ship during the entire cruise due to torrential rains and winds. Trip interruption / itinerary-change coverage did not cover this because we never left the ship. In order for this coverage to apply, we would have had to leave the ship and not get to have the ship services (ie meals, rooms). Otherwise, it was a comfort to think that we would be protected from major problems, but the details of coverage should be checked out for these types of exceptions/qualifications. For example, if the ship was disabled out at sea for days, no reimbursement would be given.

    "In the event a cruise/Travel Supplier makes a change in Your Covered Trip itinerary that prevents You from participating in an event/activity pre-paid prior to departure and scheduled on the Your Covered Trip itinerary, nonrefundable pre-paid event/activity expenses will be payable up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Coverage.

    Benefits will not be paid if the event/activity is rescheduled during the course of the Covered Trip.

    Verification by the Cruise/Travel Supplier of the change in the scheduled Trip Itinerary will be necessary for claim
    payment."

This was the first time we filed a claim...it was for an Itinerary Change. After just a little bit of paperwork which was simple and straightforward, we had our checks!

The Nationwide Mutual Choice Cruise plan is a cruise specific plan and covers many things that others don't such as the itinerary change. I would purchase again in a heart beat! Very simple claims process!

Filing a claim is the only way one can judge an insurance company. Unfortunately, my trip was cancelled secondary to snowy conditions. Getting the claim paid was an adventure in itself. I had just about enough when they insisted that they need my 8 year old's signature! The claim finally got paid when I threatened to file a complaint with government agencies.
